Q.1 Who was the Tiger King? Why did he get that name?
Ans. The Maharaja of Pratibandapuram was the Tiger King. In his life time, he hunted ninety nine tigers. For killing so many tigers, he got the name of the Tiger King.
Q.2 How was prince Jung Bahadur brought up?
Ans. The crown prince drank milk of an English cow, and was brought up by an English nanny. He was tutored in English by an Englishman. He saw only English films. Thus he brought up in royal manner.
Q.3 What steps did the king take to complete his mission?
Ans. The king banned tiger hunting in the state. He proclaimed that only he would hunt and kill tigers. He vowed to attend all the other matters only after killing the hundred tigers.
Q.4 How did the Tiger King come in the danger of losing his throne and how did he save his kingdom?
Ans. Once a British officer visited Pratibandapuram. He wished to hunt tigers. But the Maharaja refused permission. The British officer sent a message that the Maharaja could do the actual killing. He just wanted a photograph of himself holding the gun and standing over the tiger's carcass. The Maharaja did not agree to even this. Now for preventing a British officer from fulfilling his desire, the Maharaja stood in danger of losing his kingdom. The Maharaja sent some fifty expensive diamond rings to the officer's wife to choose one or two out of them. But she kept all the rings. The Maharaja had to pay a bill for 3 lakh rupees. Hence, by sending precious diamond rings as a gift, he came out of the danger.
Q.5 Describe the two times when Gafur lost self-control.
Ans. First, Gafur lost his self-control, when he had returned home at noon after search for work and had no food and water at home. And second time, when the landlord's messenger had spoken to him roughly, Gafur lost self-control.
Q.6 Why did Gafur lose his temper and kill Mahesh?
Ans. Gafur had to suffer great torture at the hands of the landlord because of Mahesh. When Gafur, who was already angry, saw the bull sucking water brought by Amina, he became out of control and killed it.
Q.7 What was Sophie's dream about her future?
Ans. Sophie wanted to own a boutique, wanted to become a manager and wanted to become an actress. Her dream is not realistic.
Q.8 Why was Sophie jealous of Geoff's silence?
Ans. Geoff spoke very little. Sophie, was jealous of Geoff's silence because when he wasn't speaking, it was as if he was away somewhere out there in the world in those places she had never been.
